Wear OS 4

While adding to the release of Wear OS 3, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 was the first wearable device to Showcase Google’s client for streaming service. But the YouTube Music app is now coming to Wear OS 2 watches.

Google’s Music streaming client YouTube Music is now available on the recent firmware of Wear OS, Snapdragon Wear 4100 which is powered a Mobvoi TicWatch devices and the new Fossil Gen 6 lineup.

Users can install this new update from their phone through the Play Store, or by directly searching on the wearable device.

However, currently the app is yet to appear on any Snapdragon Wear 3100-powered devices. The company is expected to expand availability by the end of 2021.

Like the App on Mobile devices, YouTube Music for Wear OS simply lets you download songs and playlists to your watch to listen on-the-go without your phone or mobile device being near by. This is really quite useful for early morning exercising, this function has been non-existent on the platform following the depreciation of Google Play Music.

The app is primarily a list split into “Downloads,” “Recommended,” and “Library.” The first section can include your “Offline Mixtape,” “Your Likes,” and “Discover Mix.” This is followed by playlist suggestions, while “Settings” is located at the very bottom where you can select how many songs are stored. Once playback is initiated, you can swipe left for Now Playing controls, which lets you like/unlike tracks.

A “Smart Downloads” feature, just like on mobile, will refresh your cached content on your wearable whenever you’re connected to Wi-Fi and charging. Though a monthly YouTube Music Premium subscription is required to use.
