Xiaomi 12 Launch Date
The Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro will be available in China on December 28. Both phones will have 50 MP primary cameras. However, not all 50 MP sensors are created equal, and it looks like the Xiaomi 12 will come up short.
According to all available information, Xiaomi is planning to equip all flagships in the Xiaomi 12 series with 50 MP primary cameras, thereby replacing the 108 MP camera. However, not all 50 MP sensors are created equal, and Xiaomi has now disclosed the differences between the 50 MP cameras on the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro.
The Xiaomi 12 Pro will come with a fairly high-end sensor. Sony’s IMX707 sensor, a variation of the IMX700 found in the Huawei P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro, will be used in the more costly phone. The IMX707 has a 1/1.28-inch sensor with Dual-PD focus and a 2.44m focal length.
The sensor on the standard Xiaomi 12 is significantly less powerful. The Xiaomi 12 will reportedly include a 50 MP IMX766 sensor. The IMX766 sensor, which has been seen on phones like the OnePlus Nord 2, has gradually become the mid-range sensor of choice, so seeing it on what should be a premium phone is a bit disappointing. It has a smaller sensor (1/1.56″) than the 1/1.33″ ISOCELL HMX in the Mi 10 and Mi 11. The Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro are also likely to include 32 MP selfie cameras.
