Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States speaking at an interview

Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, hailed the announcement of negotiations with Russia as a possible path to end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but noted that her country is “not ready to capitulate.”   In response to news that Ukraine has agreed to meet with Russian negotiators at the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, Ukraine’s priority has always been to utilise diplomacy to resolve the dispute between Russia and Ukraine, Markarova stated in an interview with ABC News on today.

From the beginning, even before the war began, our president was always focused — was always focused on the diplomatic solution,” Markarova added. Even after the war began, he always called for peace talks, but he always maintained, “We’re ready for peace talks, but we’re not ready to surrender.” She concluded.

Going forward, Markarova also urged the West to provide greater military aid to Ukraine’s military and urged the US and its allies to impose additional sanctions on Russia. Markarova also urged US companies to consider divesting from Russian companies and financial institutions.

We are grateful for all that is already there and what is on the way, but we need more because we are protecting our country against a formidable foe.

We also need penalties, additional sanctions, and we need Russia to understand and feel that it is not acceptable in the twenty-first century to attack another country, a sovereign country, for no reason, “Markarova added.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to appeal to Americans.”   “It’s all business,” Markarova remarked. “I think it’s time to think about salvaging reputations and not helping with a dictatorship that will wind up in The Hague for everything they’ve done and are doing now to Ukraine,” she added in part, referring to the International Court of Justice, which hears allegations of war crimes.
