Twitter is testing a new feature for its Spaces audio rooms that lets a host broadcast a clip of recorded Spaces on their timeline.

According to Twitter Spaces, the functionality is currently accessible to “certain hosts on iOS.” Everyone on iOS can watch and listen to clips, while those on Android and the web awaits access to the feature. Shared Spaces slips will be live on Twitter for a duration period of 30 days, business spokesman Joseph J. Nuez stated while discussing with The Verge.

Although, Twitter is restricting clips just to Spaces hosts. However, the company hopes to offer Spaces clipping capability to “everyone on Twitter in the near future,” Nuez added. However, it’s all too simple to envision an ill-intentioned listener capturing a clip and sharing it in a malevolent manner on Twitter, so we’ll have to wait and see whether Twitter offers measures to prevent the abuse of clips once the service is accessible more broadly.

Clips are already pretty helpful on other platforms—they’re a simple way to convey digestible amounts of information or material. I personally connect them most with Twitch – I’ve seen a lot of clips of significant moments from broadcasts in place of attempting to scrub through an hour-long recording of a stream.

However, YouTube is also trying a similar function. Spaces’ rival Clubhouse launched clips in September. Amazon offers a clip feature that allows you to share up to 30 seconds of select Prime Video material. Slack has also introduced a clips tool, which allows you to record brief audio or video recordings to help people reduce the amount of time they spend in meetings.
