Twitter is extending its downvote test to more countries. Users who have seen the opportunity to downvote tweets on the social media platform, you’re not the only one.

When Twitter first began testing this new function last year, it was only seen by select users.

Twitter has announced that it will soon be extending the downvote option to iOS and Android users as well as browser users.

Twitter, unlike Reddit, does not make total upvotes and downvotes available to the public, but instead uses them to fine-tune the responses that are shown to users.

User responses that were deemed offensive or irrelevant by the firm were de-rated. Using downvotes and dislikes is an easy method for viewers to provide criticism on online material, but it may also be troublesome. Targeted harassment, for example, might be used to stifle dissident views on Twitter by making them part of the algorithm.

When YouTube made the vote count private in November of last year, it discovered dislikes to be an issue. Downvotes have been tested by Facebook, but the social network has never incorporated the feature since it preferred the original “like” choice before adding emojis to the mix.
