Reddit New features

Reddit rolls out a web version of Reddit Talk its live audio product.. Following the launch of its Clubhouse replica in April, Reddit is expanding Reddit Talk with additional features aimed at increasing participation.

Web accessibility, tapes of previous episodes, live commentary throughout talks, as well as a live bar at the top of the main feed (similar to Twitter’s) that reveals what live chats are going to take place are just a few of the new features.

“We’ve experienced over 250 percent rise in active daily viewers of Reddit Talk in the last three months,” the business reported on its blog. Reddit also said that over 1,000 subreddits (or communities) had hosted live audio talks, including a discussion in r/cryptocurrency involving investor Kevin O’Leary and a session in r/movies with stunt doubles from the “Jackass” series.

The concept of live audio conferences on Reddit may appear contradictory at first, given that many Redditors use the service to maintain their privacy. The option to reply and send emojis during live rooms, on the other hand, will makes it much easier for timid (or private) people to participate — previously, listeners can only talk by lifting their (virtual) hand. Users will find it easier to connect with this new universe of Reddit content thanks to tools like browser support, the live bar, and asynchronous listening.

Reddit’s iOS and Android applications are still the sole way to start a conversation, but the option to start a chat on the desktop is expected later in the month, according to Reddit.

Only Reddit moderators (representatives who do their best to keep subreddits civil and orderly) can start live discussions right now. A Google Form can be used to request to host a talk. Given the difficulties that sites like Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse have had with content moderation, this could be a decent approach for Reddit to put things on track for the time being.

A Reddit spokeswoman informed TechCrunch that “there are no opportunities to expand the webcast tool to Reddit users outside moderators.”
