Keynotes

  • Strange complications have arisen as a consequence of the installation of new software.
  • We’ve gained sufficient access to Google’s latest flagship phones to explore why some of them have been so problematic with Android 12.
  • When a call is received, some Pixel owners complain their phones do not ring at all.
  • According to Google’s support forums and Reddit (via PhoneArena), some calls are being discreetly banned and sent to voicemail, although this is not always the case.

The installation of new software has resulted in strange problems on the Pixel 6 smartphone. We’ve had enough access to Google’s newest flagship phones to investigate why Android 12 has been so unstable on some of them. When a call comes in, some Pixel users are reporting that their phones aren’t ringing at all.

Like the notification vibrations, we haven’t been able to verify this. Google’s support forums and Reddit (via Phone Arena) seem to show that some calls are being quietly blocked and sent straight to voicemail, but this isn’t always the case.

While they all claim to have no Do Not Disturb setting or other feature active, their call log shows that an “incoming call” was “declined,” even though the phone didn’t ring. According to PhoneArena commenters, Verizon spam filtering was to blame for a similar issue, but the problem has been reported by other carriers as well.

There doesn’t seem to be a proven solution to the problem other than the “Hail Mary” idea of device resets for individuals who are experiencing it. Some people who have used previous Pixel phones, like the 2XL, have had the same problems as people who have used the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro phones.
