Google today revealed that changes made to the Chrome browser have improved performance on Apple’s Macs, with Google Chrome obtaining a score of 300 on the Speedometer test analysis which shows the responsiveness of a browser.
In a post on the Chromium blog, Google highlights the technical enhancements that have been incorporated over the last few months to make Chrome the “fastest possible browser.” According to Google, it was able to “significantly” enhance browser performance across all major platforms in the M99 edition of Chrome, which is the most recent version.
Building on numerous performance advancements over the previous year, we introduced ThinLTO in M99, a build optimization strategy that prioritises code focused on browser speed. The result? Chrome now outperforms Safari by 7% thanks to an additional overall performance boost.
Improvements have resulted in a 43 percent faster browser in just 15 months since the Google Chrome browser was released for M1 Macs in late 2020. According to Google, Chrome is now 15 percent quicker than Safari when it comes to graphics performance, and the firm says it will continue to invest in creative features that “push the performance of Chrome.”
