In accordance with the company’s publishing notes, the macOS Catalina Security Update 2022-002 and the macOS Big Sur 11.6.4 both enhance the security of the macOS operating system. The specific security fixes contained in the new updates published on Monday are unclear, but Apple recommends that all users download and install them.
Those who are still running macOS Big Sur or macOS Catalina should download the updates, which can be found in the Software Update pane of System Preferences.
A few days prior to the publishment of macOS Big Sur 11.6.4, the company announced the release of macOS Monterey 12.2.1, which addressed a vulnerability in WebKit that could have resulted in arbitrary code execution. Apple stated at the time that it was aware of a report claiming that the vulnerability had been actively exploited.
Similarly, Apple also published security updates for Safari 15.3 on macOS Big Sur and macOS Catalina on the same day, which addressed the WebKit vulnerability.
