Android App users in South Korea Will Soon Be Getting a Second Choice Option For IAP

Google today has unveiled its steps to provide an alternative option for initiating in-app payment transaction for users based in South Korea right after two months of the country issuing a Law to Google requesting for a second choice means of initiating payment transaction within it’s Google Play, the order also went as far as reaching Apple to also do the same for its App Store.

In a short time all android apps enlisted on the Google Play Store will be able to feature another choice of in-app payment and recurring billing systems. According to Google, all app developers will still showcase the first-party IAP option alongside just that they will only include a second choice.

Meanwhile, in one mockup update, the tech giants showcased a news app with an open choice of option to users to decide how to check out” sheet that shows Google Play and an “Example app.”

Noting that, Google in a statement said “We respect the decision of the National Assembly, and we are sharing some changes to respond to this new law, including giving developers that sell in-app digital goods and services the option to add an alternative in-app billing system alongside Google Play’s billing system for their users in South Korea”

Meanwhile, Google will in the coming weeks and months roll out to app developers a guide to implement this new development which thus includes “instructions for submitting security and customer service verifications and a set of user experience step-by-step guide to enable their app users make an informed decision.”

However, in addition, all apps to feature alternative billing and is been distributed through Google Play will continue to be subjected to service fees and it will “remain as digital sales on the Google Play domain,” furthermore, Google will also reduce it fee by 4% in respect of how “developers will incur costs to support their other billing platform.”
