Activision Offering Over 1000 Game Testers Fulltime Jobs W/ Hourly Pay of $20

  • As of this week, Activision Blizzard has given over 1,100 temporary game testers full-time roles with benefits at the company’s Activision Publishing and Blizzard divisions.
  • On April 17th, these strong>team members’ minimum hourly wage will increase to $20/hr or higher.
  • Raven Software, an Activision company best known for its work on the Call of Duty franchise, dismissed QA contractors in December, causing massive protests among the staff.

Over 1,100 temporary game testers have been offered full-time positions with perks by Activision Blizzard, the company’s Activision Publishing and Blizzard divisions, as of this week. Moreover, they will benefit from an increase in their hourly pay, which will now be at least $20.

Activision Blizzard’s vice president of corporate relations, Jessica Taylor, issued the following statement: Across Activision Blizzard, we’re delivering more content to gamers than ever before. As a consequence, we’re working to improve the way our teams collaborate to create our games and provide the best possible experiences for our gamers. People in our Quality Assurance (QA) team play a big part in our development work as we plan for the future.

As a result, Activision Publishing (AP) and Blizzard (Blizzard) announced today that all temporary and contingent QA team members in the United States would be converted to permanent full-time employees beginning July 1. On April 17th, the minimum hourly pay for these team members will rise to $20/hr or higher. All of the company’s perks, including its incentive programme, will be available to these new workers as well.

It began last year to move temporary and contract workers, including 500 at AP’s studios, to full-time, permanent jobs. QA contractors were laid off by Raven Software, an Activision firm best known for its work on the Call of Duty series, in December, sparking widespread protests among the workforce. Some employees went on strike and organised a union, the Game Workers Alliance, with the Communications Workers of America, as a protest.

In contrast, Jason Schreier has also reported on Twitter that Raven QA testers will not be getting increases. However, verification was carried out by The Verge on this with Activision Blizzard and provided an explanation in the form of an email from Raven Software vice president Brian Raffel.

Raffel stated that “we are restricted from implementing new types of pay modifications at Raven at this time because of our legal commitments under the National Labor Relations Act.” At the bottom of this story, you can read Raffel’s email in full.

Communications Workers of America secretary-treasurer Sara Steffens said in a statement that “all credit for Activision Blizzard’s latest move to give all temporary and contingent QA team members full-time employment as well as a raise should go to the workers who have been organising, mobilising, and speaking out,” she added.

That Activision has omitted Raven Software QA staff, who have been in the vanguard of this endeavour, from these perks is particularly galling. An attempt to split employees by claiming that the National Labor Relations Act forbids them from involving Raven workers is plainly being made by the firm (Game Workers Alliance-CWA). Because of Activision’s dishonest declaration, employees must have a voice that is protected at work. It is our hope that Activision Blizzard will take immediate action to fix this issue and respect the protected right of Raven QA staff to organise.

Activision has also been under a lot of heat since the state of California’s lawsuit in July claimed that the business created a culture of “continuous sexual harassment.” Activision According to the Wall Street Journal, CEO Bobby Kotick was aware of sexual misconduct complaints at the business for years. A court recently granted an $18 million settlement between the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the state of California in a separate case against the EEOC.

Microsoft’s proposed $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard is also a factor in the developments that have taken place.

For the first time, Activision has released letters from Activision Publishing and Blizzard executives about the notice. Full-Time QA for Conversions to Blizzard Quality

Hello Blizzard, how are you?

There are a lot of interesting things in store for gamers in 2022 and beyond that we’ve already spoken about with many of you! Things are heating up in our organisations, and we’re just getting started with our reinvigorated commitment to putting our teams and players first.

In order to meet and surpass their needs, we must be able to produce high-quality games at the “Blizzard quality” level our gamers anticipate. During the last six months, I’ve had the chance to meet with members of our QA team and explain my thoughts on contract and full-time jobs to them. To everyone who helped me learn and shared their thoughts on how we might make Blizzard the finest player-focused gaming studio, I express my gratitude. Thank you. As we all know, our success in providing the greatest possible gaming experiences relies heavily on QA.

Some time ago, the QA team’s leadership began to modify their strategy for staffing the team, converting more temporary and contract workers (TEAs) to full-time employees (FTEs) and relying on partners to handle short-term surges in workloads. At this point, all of the remaining U.S.-based TAEs and contractors (more than 90 in Irvine, Austin, and Albany) have been converted to full-time employees (FTEs). In addition, we’re raising the minimum hourly salary for QA to $20/hour, and they will be eligible for our incentive programme and other perks.

April 7th is the date.


Today, it was announced that all US-based TEA and contingency QA personnel would be transformed into full-time employees. With this announcement, we’re building on the transitions that started across all AP studios in December 2021. With the help of open communication between ourselves, we were able to raise wages, increase benefits, and create new job possibilities that allowed us to keep the greatest workers in the world on board.

Minimum hourly fee increases have been announced for certain of Activision’s QA employees. To top it all off, these QA professionals will be eligible for the same bonuses that our Raven QA teams have already been receiving as a result of their conversion to the new system. No new pay changes can be made at Raven at this time because we have to follow the National Labor Relations Act.

If you have any questions or concerns about the union, this process, or the news, don’t hesitate to talk to any department head, manager, or HR person you know.

As usual, I’ll provide additional information as soon as I get it. As a result, there are a lot of possibilities for our teams as a result of this.
